Agriculture – Case Study

“When we behold a wide, turf-covered expanse, we should remember that its smoothness, on which so much of its beauty depends, is mainly due to all the inequalities having been slowly leveled by worms. It may be doubted if there are any other animals which have played so important a part in the history of the world as have these lowly creatures.”

-Charles Darwin, Charles Darwin’s Works 1896

Company

Vermipod

VermiPod, Inc. developed a system for agricultural soil management using earthworms, as well as a commercially available method of introducing them into agricultural sites through injection, planting, manual placement. This system allows farmers to plant earthworms into the ground using seed-like cocoons.

The proprietary agriculture technology enables Vermipod to encapsulate earthworms in a transportable and durable cocoon. This revolutionary encapsulation method reduces costs and mitigates the high mortality rates from transporting earthworms that have become accustomed to a specific ecosystem’s soil.

Challenges

Determine the best launch strategy. The company’s technology is versatile enough to enter a number of markets: agriculture, gardening, anticoagulants, education, and land remediation.

  • Vermipod, Inc. had a select number of clients that purchased small amounts of their products. A small partner managed their online presence.
